Build the Best Toy with a Wooden Toy Pattern
If you’re interested in wooden toys and would like
you and your child to make one together, then all you need is a wooden toy pattern. And you don’t
even need to be an expert woodworker to build one.
These projects can keep children occupied for
hours. They learn to work independently, develop their decision-making skills, with you as their guide. And the
result is a whopping confidence booster.
There are wooden
toy plans for just about every wood toy you can think of: wooden toy truck plans, dolls and doll houses,
animals, rocking horses, wooden toy box plans, trains, all kinds of kiddy cars, just to name a few. This includes
instructional wooden toys: educational trains that teach alphabets and numbers as well as puzzles. And a number of
these patterns cater to beginners while assisting the expert.
Some plans do not require carving. But if
you’re a woodworker, you can carve, if you like. All any beginner has to do is trace, cut and then assemble the
parts. On the other hand, there are wood toy plans that do need a little woodworking skill.
Generally, the wood toy plans includes the
pattern, a list of materials you’ll need, clear instructions with the full size patterns along with detailed
diagrams. And some will even include a painting guide in case you’d like to paint the toy.
Remember, though, that for the more advanced
projects, depending on what you’re building, you will need to get the parts kit. However, many of these kits do not
include the pattern. So you’ll need to buy the pattern as well as the parts kit.
There are a number of online stores where you can
order patterns on CDs. And there are some websites that offer free wooden toy patterns that you can use to test
your skills. They refer to them as mini patterns.
Building a toy from scratch using a wooden toy
pattern helps a child develop shape recognition and spatial relations. Most of all, it instills the child
with confidence and a feeling of accomplishment.
